Stolen Innocence

There drowned, in melting flakes of snow
Ashes of youth lie still
And in the young, determined dawn
Lights pulse and weave through.
Dappled drabs of fetid darkness
Stray shafts of sunlight bounce
And surely through the marble words
Nectar thoughts do pronounce.
Cannon thumps and dusty deadlines
Keep life from spilling over
Swamps of pavement and rippled rocks
Search for the abductor
The innocence floats like prayers
In a bell-clear morning
And yet there, in the rubber heat
The crow is drowned in sin.
